Hope to see you this coming weekend, Sat Feb 26th, 2011 at the Gala.  I think it will be a fun way to support the AR Crisis Center.  I’ve talked with them about talking to parents of preteens and teens in the middle school and high school age group at our schools or a community location.  Watch for upcoming date of when we can have them come to our area to talk with teens and parents about signs to watch for and things we can do to support our children through these difficult teen years.  They have trained our school personnel over the past few years and have been available when we’ve had incidents of suicide in our community but I’d like to educate our community in the warning signs and prevention techniques rather than waiting until an incident occurs and attempting to provide grief counseling and resources after the fact.   Please join me in learning what to watch for and watching for early warning signs in our kids or friend’s kids and all those we come in contact with in our community.

Peace at Home Shelter is a place I recently became aware of and started supporting.  Their purpose is to help women and families in abusive relationships.  I personally have a problem with anyone hitting their spouse, girlfriend or children.  My employer supports this outreach and I have chosen to as well.  Our IS transportation team at work donated blankets this winter for the ladies coming into the facility.  I hope you’ll keep the facility and the familes that need it in your prayers.  If you feel the need to donate your time or resources, they keep a list online of items they need and a list of ways to volunteer.  Please join me in speaking out against violence in our families and communities and show your support of those reaching out to the hurting.
